The first thing you learn about Faversham is that there are two types of places: there is the very old (c. 300-400 y/o) and then there are the oldest (400 y/o+). Also, there is a third category: "New" which is reserved for anything younger than 300 years.
A tour guide of the area will invariably preface all his sentences with 'this is one of the older buildings in town', or 'this is the oldest x in the area' or even 'this is the oldest x in the UK'. It's hard to believe such places are still standing, or mostly standing. Those which are not, were mostly destroyed by human hand or disaster.

This is the 'parish church' of Faversham (St Mary of Charity) which was founded approx 12th century, although the unique "corona spire" for which it is known is new. This feature was added not so long ago- some time in the 18th century. It may be one of the most prominant buildings in Faversham but it is not the oldest. That distinction is given to Davington church and priory which was founded 1153.
